Hands Off Eyes On

2025 | Video Essay | 12 min
Director and Editor
2025

A meditation on memory, politics, and the persistence of images. Through the phrase 'Hands off Syria' on a Locarno wall, we trace a revolution, a war, and the lives entangled in both. The wall becomes a silent antagonist, reflecting cinema's contradictions: to document, amplify, commodify, and betray.Originally a pro-regime slogan, 'Hands off Syria' has become spectral—detached from its origins yet echoing in new contexts. The essay explores how media texts are repurposed, misinterpreted, and estranged from their history, while Syrian filmmakers risked everything to record what the world watches, applauds, and forgets.Incorporates archival footage by Bassel Khartabil (Safadi), Syrian activist and programmer murdered by the regime.

About

Coming from New York City and currently based in Rome, Italy, I aim to tell stories that engage, inspire and resonate.
My goal has always been to explore images of quality and to maintain aesthetic elegance wherever possible.
Whether it be for a larger corporate work or a cinematic passion project, I believe the only visual divisions are the ones we make and that beauty and engagement are possible wherever we strive for them.
